Grateful

One tree, six sections of fence, and a big mess to clean up: I can't, and won't, complain. No serious damage, no water, and no injuries to myself, mine, or my extended. Can't ask for more. We didn't even lose power.

Which reminds me of something George Carlin said, which I will paraphrase, since my book was permanently "borrowed":

I heard on the news that 250,000 people are without power tonight. I thought, actually 300 million Americans are without power. They're just not aware of it.

And there it is. Well, I'm grateful all the same. We hope to return to our regularly scheduled programming soon.

Respectfully Yours,

Cricket and Porcupine

In our neck of the woods, the whole thing came off as nothing more than a very bad thunderstorm. A few small branches, here or there, but nothing deadly. Power remained on, no real disruption to our lives, Thank God.

Such a relief to read various posts from people who live in what was harm's way with Ms. Irene's visit.
One thing that really irritates me though now -after the fact -are the press/media people and their questions/comments to the effect of whether people were over-warned, over-prepared, etc., and if the storm was hyped way out of proportion. Frankly, I'd much rather be over-warned, over-prepared, given the opportunity TO evacuate if necessary and to heed those warnings! And, I'm quite sure had there not been all those warnings and such and had Irene been the storm that it was initially feared she would be and thousands or even maybe millions could/would have been affected in a really bad way, then we'd be reading all about how and why the officials didn't do enough to warn people to get the hell out of Irene's way! Can't win no matter which way they or we turn, or so it seems at times anyway. And you and I both know fully that those who feel there was too much in the way of extra preparedness would most likely have been the first in line to find someone to bitch and scream at, cry foul, had the reverse situation have been the scene. Methinks those folks should just shut up and be damned grateful that they DIDN'T actually need the steps they took to be safe as they could be like those in New Hampshire and Vermont who got clipped after-the-fact with lots of flooding and such.
But last week sure was a week to behold, wasn't it -here on the east coast -everything from earthquakes to tornadoes and hurricanes then tropical storms! Thankfully, where I live, I didn't even feel the earthquake although a lot of others around me say they did and the hurricane barely affected us here in the middle of the state -just a little rain and a lot of gray skies but I'm happy enough to have had to only deal with that!

A few broken pieces and some debris to pick up sounds pretty minor indeed. So glad you are safe. I look forward to the regularly scheduled posts.

I hear you both. Phew! We did lose power in northern RI, but it was restored, at least to my household, this past Tuesday evening. Irene gave us much to ponder... and write about.

So glad you are safe and well. :)

So glad you made it through unscathed. No, there's no complaining for us, just gratitude aplenty.
Hooray for Mr. Carlin!
